Council

The council is the Political Leadership of the institution, which is tasked with a clear mandate of the government in governing and guiding the development of the municipality and its people (community). It comprises of the Executive Committee (Exco) and various Portfolio Committees that resemble the organizational structure (organogram) of the municipality. The members of the committees are as follows:

Executive Committee (Exco)
  • His Worship the Mayor: Cllr. S.T. Gumede (Portfolio Head: Finance, Budget Control & Corporate Services)
  • The Honorable Deputy Mayor: Cllr. N.Y. Dlamini (Portfolio Head Local Economic Development (LED) & Infrastructure)
  • The Honorable Speaker: Cllr. S.R. Ngcobo (Ex – officio)
  • Cllr. S.M. Zuma (Portfolio Head: Planning Committee)
  • Cllr. G.M. Mchunu (Portfolio Head: Community Services Committee)
  • Cllr. B.N. Shozi (Member)
IDP Steering Committee
  • Consists of the Heads of Departments which are: The Municipal Manager Office, Director Corporate Services, Director Financial Services, Director Technical Services and the IDP Manager
  • Oversees the alignment of the planning process internally
IDP Forum
  • Consists of all Umzumbe Ward Councillors and Government Departments, stakeholders and other Service Providers
